Ok kids it's been 8 years but the time has finally come.
We are going to Long Island for the Nov meeting.
Those guys come up here for meetings so we can certainly make the trek down there for 1.
Here are some driving distances for reference:

Providence RI - New London CT ferry - 1:00
Worc Ma - New London CT ferry - 1:15
Springfield MA - New London CT ferry - 1:30
Bridgewater MA - New London CT ferry - 1:45
Manchester NH - New London CT ferry - 2:30
Portsmouth NH - New London CT ferry - 2:45
Hillsboro NH - New London CT ferry - 3:00
Albany NY - New London CT - Ferry - 3:00
Lebanon NH - New Lond CT ferry- 3:30

I believe the Ferry runs every 2 hours starting at 7:00 AM so you would need to make the 9:00 AM boat unless your driving all the way around.
I would encourage car pooling at least from the ferry on to save money.

I'm helping Garrett coordinate some things but we need some more info.

1) Are you planning on driving all the way around, or taking the ferry from CT.
2) Will it be a day trip or will you stay over night somewhere.

Where's Long Island?

I've heard of it.

Is it like by New Jersey or something?

Some people confuse Rhode Island & Long Island.

I need more info before I can make an educated guess. I don't typically do boats (they're evil, EVIL I TELL YOU!!) but if it's cheaper in the long run, I'd suck it up.

However, I can't even make plans for next week, nevermind in 10 months. :?

How can you be afraid of boats? And you live in Rhode Island? Planes is understandible, but boats?

I have friends on the island so I will probably go down for this. IMO it is usually easier and cheaper though to NOT take the ferry. Also would like to know where on the island this is.

Well thats part of why we are asking about the ferry or driving. They have options at both ends of the island, but it's like 6 hours to drive around vs taking the ferry.

How much is the ferry, and how long is the trip?

I'm not sure driving or ferry matters to me. I would most likely make this an overnight trip depending on hotel prices. I have a Long Island expert I can ask for details...

I can drive from central NH to Hicksville NY in about 5 hours, give or take depending on day and time of day. Without knowing where on the island we are meeting it is hard to give a solid opinion of what will be the best way to go.

Rates for February on the Cross Island Ferry is $46 for car and driver one way. Adult round trip is $24. So round trip for one car and two people $116.

Rates for the Bridgeport CT to Port Jefferson NY ferry is $51 for car and driver one way, each additional adult is $14.75 one way. Two adults one car total round trip $131.50.

 If there was wheeling on Long Island, do you think they would drive all the way to NH?
