Going to the dark side

Postby JayZR2 » Wed Apr 01, 2009 8:34 am

Well after the last trip to Maine I finally decided Sunshine is just not worth sinking any more money into. I love her but she's bleeding me dry.

I pulled the trigger on this yesterday.
My new ride

Won't have much money to mod her yet but I hear they do OK off the shelf.

I knew that was an April Fool's without even looking at the link and scrolling down. 1. There is no way you would leave Sunshine and 2. There is even less of a chance you would ever be caught dead owning a heep.

This time it's not a joke.

Well Sunshine needs some serious attention. I decided it was better to give her that and get her built right so I'm going to stop beating on her and make her a long term project to get it done right.
Meantime I didn't want to give up wheeling all together. So I've been passively keeping an eye out for a good rig that would fit the bill to hold me over.
I found this not far from my house in Sutton. He's actually the gymtom from NEOW

It's a 1990, webber carb, center force clutch, spring over with 34x9.5 TSL's
Body is pretty solid. Open/open for now 4.16 to 1 transfer case. I'm going to get it locked front an rear right off the bat and see about the power steering mod.

Will have to see if Steve aka Willee can come up with a winch mount too.

So here it is, Airforce 1:

I like to keep things low key driving lifted vehicles.

Doesn't going to Toyota axles mean new rims, brakes etc etc. And is 60 hp really enough to break anything?

Congrats Jay! I think you will LOVE the zuk for New England Wheeling. It will do everything but the tall steep ledges. Short wheel bases like my 5 too have trouble with that.

X2!

When you really start to POUND it, the stock axles will eventually break, but they are NOT in immediate danger of exploding! I broke 2 front inner axle shafts, and twisted the splines on a couple of rears...in about 4 years of severe pounding.

Very nice looking rig!

Thanks!
I'm still probably going to stick to the moderate to slightly hard stuff for now till I get used to wheeling a stick again and used to the rig. I know someone who will have some spare shafts for me soon too.

I need to find a passenger side wiper arm and then I can get it inspected.

Thanks for the offer Bob, not sure she'll be ready to go on the 8th yet. I need to tackle some lighting issues and wiper issues. Also going to set it up to flat tow. I'll let you know.

 I know it's like one extreme to the other. I rolled down the passenger side window today from the driver seat and didn't even have to lean over.
