Tax Exempt

Postby jeepgirltj88 » Tue Jan 23, 2018 5:16 pm

Does every club apply to be tax exempt and if you do can you explain what you did and if you don't can you explain, just trying to grasp my head around all this social club 501(3)(c) stuff.

Thanks

social and recreation clubs are 501(c)7

501(c)3 is for charity and education (which you can do with an off road club, it's just harder)

Incorporate within the state and then check out IRS publication 557. You'll need to complete form 1023 or 1024 (I forget which) which may take up to 40 hours of work. It's not that bad, though.

I found that we need to fill out the form 1024 I just wanted to get an example to see what people in like clubs have wrote, since I know the wording to pass and get approved needs to be precise. Did your club complete the form 1024?

And thank you!

We absolutely did.
I used sample bylaws for a social club and edited them. I used a template for a social club for the articles of incorporation.
Massachusetts requires a president, treasurer and secretary and at least one director. If I'm not mistaken, none of those three officers may serve in any teo of those three roles, but the director may be any officer and there's no specific requirements for what that director does.
