I guess the landowner had enough of all the illegal riding on his/her land.

I think what Steve is pointing out is no one ever had direct permission from the landowner to recreate on this property (at least to my knowledge). If they are closing due to excavation I can completely understand closing the land off to prevent unnecessary risk and liability

I was referring to the permission thing.

Great, were the the same place!?

If so, I told them they didn't have permission and I could get permission from the S&G company. Instead, I dropped it when they cried now it is gone.

I deleted my post from last night. They are not the same place, making my beiotching quite pointless.

No, Scott, definitely not Patriot Jeepers. I mean the club that called some guy that contacted you leading you to contact JF, etc.
SO MAYBE THERE'S HOPE.

ive been in touch with the devils peak owner. its not public property rich, it never was, i have no idea why you're crying about it being blocked.

ive offered the communities assistance with 4x4's and got a very cold reception.. i doubt this place will ever have permission.

rich, doing the wrong thing for 20 years doesnt make it any better. if you say you've been going there for 15 years, act shocked when the owners do something with their own land and have no mention of ever speaking with the ownership who ISNT hard to find at all, then what kind of message are you really sending? that you wheel where there is a trail until that trail is closed or you get a ticket.

you get beat up enough around here that most of the time i just ignore you, but seriously, can't you step out of rich banfield for a minute and look from the sidelines at what you're doing to your credibility? people are dying for you to go away, and its not because you're mean or rude or anything, you seem like a really nice person and ive actually heard a lot of good things about you, but you just dont seem to understand how this legal wheeling thing works, when others call you on some discrepancy, its like you dont even understand the english language, you are just not acknowledging or responding to anything.

Rich, you get permission BEFORE you wheel a place for 15 years. we know you are going to be around a long time, don't you think making some little changes here and there would make working with everyone better?

Mike, you mean the old FIWI (fawk it, wheel it) attitude doesn't work any more?????

illegally for those 15 years, too. big deal. i don't need a background on you, you're obviously full of yourself.

i've been jeeping for those same 20 years, but i'm not beating my chest about it. nor am i unwilling to change my views/opinions when circumstances either dictate or demand that i do. doing the wrong thing is easy. doing the right thing takes time, and isn't always easy. too bad you don't know the difference.

Funny you'd mention 'nam, I was by there yesterday! Saw recent ATV tracks going up the powerline.

Is that an area that may be accessible in the future? Never wheeled there, but been w/mountain bike. Heard it's been off limits for years!

it sounds like you're implying that asking permission is what ruined a place, and therefore not asking would have been more appropriate.

if i've got it wrong, please clarify exactly what you really mean to say rich.

NAM - owned by mountain bike club now, iirc. I highly doubt they will give any access, they bought it for a reason.

BEACON - Was for sale, TNC bought it. People still wheel there - illegally. The gate is torn down. I was there a couple weeks ago. (Not wheeling!) For what it is worth, the rest of Gobble Mountain is for sale. It could only be accessed from the town of Becket as it is. If anyone knows the Back Beacon trail, or any of its off shoots on the west side of Beacon, PLEASE LET ME KNOW ASAP.

Devil's Peak - WFC? It was illegal, so to me it's no loss.

Actually NE4W had permission to the Beacon before it was sold to TNC. Scott, Steve and Norm took the previous owners who were out from CA on a wheeling trip up their property.

Rich, get a clue. Buy one if you have to.

We got verbal permission from Mr. Twinning the owner of the land now owned by TNC. He so wanted us to buy the land from him. I get permission from landowners.

BEACONI'm semi familiar with the western side of gobble mountain....

WHAT IS THE ASKING PRICE?

As far as mr. Twining and the east side of Gobble Mountain, we could've owned that land for VERY short money. The then owner was only looking for a return on his intial investment and IIRC would have sold the place to us for only 30K, WTF were we thinking?

Unitl this sold to the TNC we has permission

DEVIL'S PEAK
I also agree with Mr,. White, Devil's Peak was no lose as it was a very short trail and never legal.

NAM
The property NEMBA purchased is on the eastern side of the powerlines, this is property that 4x4s never used. The powerlines and roads used by 4x4s were owned by the town of Milford MA, MA DOT, and whatever power company is in that area (southern area). All of the town properties were part of a conservation area and the town selectmen will not formallly allow motorized access. The Mountain Bikes took virtual ownership of the entire area many years ago even before purchasing land and typically only had user conflicts with trail bikes.

you brought it up. you even claim to have been wheeling there for 15 years. where's the permission to wheel it during that time? can you provide evidence that you had permission? later, in this thread, you make the claim that you haven't been there. which is it?

really, the title to the thread says it all. the illegal wheeling at this place is now, uh, illegal, and always has been. do you see? no? what a surprise.

or, show the permission that you had, which makes the wheeling that went on there legal for all those years. then i'll be wrong.

scotty has it right on the nam thing.

the pedal bikes don't really travel *under* the powerlines where the motorized rigs used to go. i have not seen much activity there, certainly nothing like it saw just a few short years ago. for awhile, quads and dirt bikes took over the place like it was a motorpark and you'd see groups of jeeps every weekend. not anymore.

there is minimal activity there IMHO and i drive by there at least 2x a day.

I don't know why the 4x4's aren't allowed anymore but I do know the residents near nam complained about the noise from dirt bikes every weekend and made a big enough deal about it for the police to get involved. They made that whole street a no parking zone and ticketed and towed vehicles left on the side of the road.
Then when the Charles River trail was built they didn't want the motorized bikes anywhere near it also.

I know quite a few guys that sold there dirt bikes or quads after that place was closed because they knew of no other place to ride.

I don't think I would ride there anyway, the Milford police shooting range is right off 85.

They were never allowed, they were tolerated until things got way out of control with all motorized users

and to be honest, the way out of control part was probably attributable to the wild motorpark atmosphere of dirtbikes and quads racing there every single weekend than it was due to a few jeeps here and there. but, live by the sword, die by the sword. ;)
