UPPER TELLICO ? The U.S. Forest Service announced today proposed changes in the 39.5-mile Upper Tellicao OHV Trail system. The proposal calls for maintaining approximately 24 miles of trails, upgrading five miles of Davis Creek Road for street-legal vehicle use and closing and restoring 11 miles of other trails. The agency would also construct about one mile of new OHV trail to preserve loop routes on existing trails and correct water quality programs. Seasonal closure of the entire system from Jan. 1-March 31 would continue and temporary closures would be implemented after high rainfall. The forest service is accepting public comment on the proposal for the next 30 days and will hold an open house 1-4 p.m. June 28 at First Baptist Church in Murphy.
