Ma Bell cleanup

Postby BILLYjp2 » Sun May 03, 2009 4:47 pm

Filled 2 trash bags at Ma Bell today. 90% of the trash was beer cans pulled from the woods on the sides of the trails.

We filled one bag when we reached the turn around point. We encountered a group of 5 jeeps on the way down who were drinking beer and launching the cans into the woods as they went along. I asked them to pick up the cans and not throw any more. We cleaned up after them as we left and found a pile of trash at the parking lot that they had left by the road.

When we arrived the mud pit looked untouched but had tracks through it when we left. The group continued past us on their way to suzuki hill. They did not appear to be associated with any club and told me they were from the pittsfield area.

When we left the trail there was no garbage visible in the woods or at the parking spot at the trail head.

You shouldn't get into a situation you aren't comfortable with but personally I would have been on them.

Thank you for cleaning the trash and taking care of the place for those that don't care about the future of our sport.

Thanks, UJ! I think you did the right thing, Bill. An ugly scene would have been bad all around. You know those types are out there, it was just unfortunate timing they were there when you were.

Thats a very tough call to make, I think he made the right decision. Lead by example. If he called the cops and there was a scene, it really wouldn't help the access situation. All we needed to have happen was some "environmentalist" to find out then its game on for them. And it probably would be in some local paper police report. Good job guys, wish I could have made that run.
