Hello Everyone! I'm here to introduce an up and coming new Offroad club here in Mass. Yes, another one.... and yes... here in Mass! :D

We're MassKrawlers! The forum was started about a year and half ago and took a short hiatus for a little while, but Eric and I have jump started it back up again and its taken off wonderfully! We're still a smaller club compared to some I'm sure, but were picking up speed and our aim is to join the NEA here!

We have started our Incorporation process with the IRS and will submit to Mass.gov here within a week or so. We hope to start collecting dues soon as well. We're gearing up for wheeling season here soon with a schedule all picked out already. We have a spot reserved at the GAJR this year as well!

So come check us out! Sign up for the forum and we'll get ya in!

Let me find out when/where it is and get back to you.
Nevermind, found it. (See below)

Would you recomend that someone from the club be in attendance?

Edit:
March 6?
Gloucester.
from 10am to 2pm?
Is that the length of the meeting, or is that the after event included?

Welcome. :D

The meeting will be that long at least. I must not have extended the time when I copied last years post.

It's up to you if you want to come. If you plan on applying for membership it will help accelerate the time table.

Clubs applying for membership get voted in on a provisional status. Then they are considered for full membership pending a ride along with an NEA rep. We have meetings every other month so it's up to you when/if you want to apply.

Thanks Jay! That helps with our decision. We arent fully incorporated yet or even have dues yet for that matter, so I dont want to rush and make an error or waste everyones time at the NEA meeting for a club that isnt ready. lol. But we may make an appearance just to say hi and get that iron in the fire.

Are all your meetings at the same location? Or do you move them around some? Me, myself, live in Western Mass, about 10 mins from the NY border.

No Prob.
Our meetings move around. We let anyone who volunteers to host one decide where it will be and make the arrangements. That way 1 club isn't always driving 3 or 4 hours.
The 2010 schedule is already done:

3/6 - Mass Mudders - Magnolia Library Center, Gloucester, MA
5/1 - CCJC - Mass Maritime Academy
6/26 - VJA - TBD
8/28 - Newjo - Gretchen's (Hancock NH)
11/6 - TSJN'T - TBD

Your more then welcome to come, or send someone to any of them to ask questions, or see what we are about before applying. Our meetings are open to anyone who wants to attend.

Awesome! And once a club is a part of the NEA, whats the requirement for meeting attendance? 1 member from every club is required? or every other meeting? Does it need to be a member of the BOD/Club Officers?

Sorry for all the questions... I know I could wait to ask at the meeting but I figured I would ask now anyways. That way when i forget the answer and ask later... it will be in writing.

You can send anyone you want. If you trust them to rep your club who are we to say they can't. It is preferred that you use the same person so they are up to speed with any current issues etc. At the least your rep should be informed of whats going on.

Minimum attendance requirements are to not miss more then 3 in a 12 month period. Again we encourage you to be at all of them, but understand sometimes that isn't possible.

Hey, as a non profit incorporation in Mass, are we supposed to be tax exempt? Is that something I need to do as well?

.
With an attorney, we got incorporated in the state.
With an attorney, we are filing form 1024 or 1025 for tax exempt status.
If you do not have an attorney, I would get a book about non-profits. At least.

Ok, I think I can do the Incorporation thing without an attorney. At least it seems simple enough anyways. I found the link and the requirements.

So, JF isnt tax exempt yet, but your working on it? Can I ask why this is needed? Should I do this? Is it not needed?

Incorporation is easy enough, it is the tax exempt thing that is tricky.
Non-profit & tax exempt is the way to go. If you're not tax exempt, you have to pay tax on your dues, tee shirts, etc. If you ever were to buy land, you'd have to pay property tax as required by the state or town or whatever.

JF is tax exempt, it is the new corp we are working on. Members' Area on our forum, Dave.

Hi Dave! Glad to see you guys are looking in to NEA, its the way to go. I'd set up a delegate and attend meetings, even if you don't plan on joining until later in the year. Anybody there will be more than willing to answer your questions and fill you in.
