2011 DWE Truck show and Rock crawl

Postby Scott Hatch » Wed Aug 18, 2010 10:43 am

Posted for Frosty, I will be more than happy to pass any ideas or information along

frosty wrote:I know its a year away, but we had our truckshow recap meeting with Gunstock and it went quite well. they are very open to making it a bigger and better show next year with an expanded venue area as well as things to do saturday.

some things we talked about.

Jeep 101 "course" saturday. For the newcomers. some mild rocks and obstacles and an RTI ramp

Class 6 wheeling in surrounding towns saturday. (hosted by a local club)

moderate wheeling on DWE property saturday.

Ribfest saturday with a better offroad representation at the car show.

reserved section of the campground for truckshow attendee's

Monster truck rides.

We were also thinking about running the modified and unlimited classes in tandem instead of just mods in the morning and just unlimiteds in the afternoon. Try to keep the action going throughout the day.

plus all of the usual truck show stuff.

Were looking for other new and interesting ideas. if any club would like to "run" some portion of the show we'd love to see that. We definitely dragged in a lot of non-4x4 spectators this year and we want to try and cater to "new guys" to the sport as well as the wheeling veterans.

please post up ideas here or pm me.

kinda what the jeep 101 course will be, but it will be extremely mild so that we can advertise it as a "bring your stock jeep and learn to drive it off road" kind of thing.

there may be the option of a bit tougher loop for moderate rigs.

The show is going to have some new events this year. DWE is looking for other clubs to help in running them.

Newjo has already stepped up to help lead some of our sat trail rides

we could really use some help on running the jeep 101 course

we would love to have a club run an rti ramp for the day.

Any other offroad type ideas that the public could get involved in i would love to hear. maybe a teter-toter type thing. weighing vehicles, tech demonstrations.....looking for ideas.

we would really like to make our yearly donations to the nea and other charities and attach other club names to them.

pm me or post here if you would like to help.

I would be willing to help out with the 101 class.

Maybe add a winching 101 class, tread lightly class, hill climb?

NCRS has 4 or 5 members that actually live in gilford so we could help with trail rides also

I posted this on the BSJ forum thinking it would be right up their ally, doesn't seem to be to my surprise.

Having said that, if there is anything I can do to help with the event, just ask. I have a little experience with these events.

The Jeep 101? That's funny because a couple years ago it was BSJ members who wanted us to have one and at that time they were interested in facilitating it. :? Times change I guess. :)

were meeting with gunstock in the upcoming weeks to talk about new things we would like to do this year.

Ribfest on saturday is no longer happening so we have saturday open to whatever we want to do.

any ideas that you would like to see on saturday other than trail rides??

i wouldnt mind seeing some club competition events. tug or wars. teeter totters etc. something fun to pass the time.

tug o war would be a great addition, a bicycle race race for the kids with somekind of award for the winner/s, maybe a burnout contest?

Burn outs have always been a sore spot. I love watching them as much as the next person but they don't really speak well for our sport.

How about a small stocker rock crawl, a challenge course (like a 101 course), power wheels for the kids, winch class.

Frosty on the trail rides what are you looking for?

I think they're already planning a 101 course and we've done the PW for the kids for the past couple years.

we have the jeep 101 course pre approved with gunstock. it will be geared towards new wheelers--stockers to 33s. it will run along a "trail" from the pond near where the rock crawl was last year to one of the safari camping areas.

if we have enough volunteers this could run both days.

no reason we couldnt do power wheels races both days. people seem to enjoy them. just need volunteers to run them. we usually do some prizes for the participants. maybe entry could be $1 and there could be a cash purse!

i like the bike race idea.

were meeting with gunstock at the end of this month, so keep the ideas coming.

Hey frosty

NCRS has been scouting class 6 roads in the gilmanton/gilford area.

Question I have will gunstock be willing to open up there access road for use during the event? If so there is a class 6 road that comes up the back side of the mountain.

Also how long are you looking for these trail rides to be?

Because I don't have PDF's turned on in this part of the forum.

FYI we need some volunteers for the NEA booth at the show. 2 people can easily work the booth for the day. Ideally it would be nice to see several step up for one of the major events that contributes to our bank account and work it in shifts.

Delegates please pass this on to your clubs and let myself or Tammy know if you have anyone interested.

Saturday will be trail rides and set-up for Sunday's show. The actual show with booths and everything is on Sunday. The trailer can be dropped off at the show area...when you get there Saturday someone can show you. The booth needs to be manned on Sunday only.

Just a quick update you might want to pass along to your members. Currently we only have two competitors signed up for the Rock Crawl. If we don't get enough competitors to make it worth it (at least 18 more), the current idea is the Rock Crawl will be opened up to anyone bringing a vehicle to the show who wishes to take a run through. There will be different difficulty levels...not just the typical DWE stupid-insane line. Unfortunately our usual competitors have broken/non-existent rigs or have engagements immediately following the show so they can't take a chance of injuring their rig. This'll be the first year since we started the RC portion of the show that we probably will not have enough competitors. :(

Please encourage attendance at our event. As stated, it is one of the biggest events that supports our Association and has allowed us to establish things such as the trails fund. This can only happen if the event has a good attendance! There will be trail rides on Saturday, plenty to do in the area, on-site camping, and more! We're also doing the Powerwheels race again so if you know anyone coming with kids who have a Powerwheels...please tell them to bring it!

Many of you know we recently lost Russ Cook to cancer. Russ is the one who originally started the Truck Show, as both a way to educate the public about our sport and to give 4x4 enthusiasts a chance to come and mingle with others who share their interests. With it being our 10th year and all, this year will also be kind of a memorial to Russ and it would be awesome to just flood the place with people! We'll also be presenting a gift to his wife and son that was collected from the first ride for Russ that we hosted a few weeks ago.

There is trail rides on class 6s and private land DWE has access too on SAT and also a jeep 101 course for those with stock rigs. There is also a RTI ramp and a teeter totter for your truck. Should be a great time. Last year there campground was flooded with jeeps and all kinds of rigs for the week end and we filled the show area up pretty good on Sunday

This was posted on an other forum.

NCRS will drop the trailer off and we will be at gretchen's so we will not be able to help out with the event at this time.
