2012 NEA4WDC Snow Run

Postby tammylynn » Sat Jan 28, 2012 11:17 am

When: Saturday, February 18, 2012 Trail Departure is 9am.

Where: Wayne's World & Local Class VI roads

Join us for some old school wheeling in the snow, well hopefully, and good times with fellow wheelers.

Snow Run will be on private land and local Class VI roads. Vehicle requirements are as follows: Moderate trail– 32” tires, one locker or winch, and frame-mounted attachment points front and rear. Hard trail– 35” tires, front and rear lockers OR one locker and winch. Extreme– all of the above and more. Groups will meet to be on the trail for 9am.

Cost for Snow Run is $30/person and includes a sticker and some food.

Snow Runs are unpredictable so be prepared with everything you need. It is highly recommended that you bring a lunch, beverages, something to share at the after party if you wish. This is open to anyone who meets the requirements.
Email snowrun@nea4wd.org for Directions.

Would it be a bad idea to attend if someone has a 2wd tow rig? I don't mind having to help it out of the field, but any advice is welcome. Also, how do we sign up, or is it a show up and wheel type of thing? Thanks.

If you have to help it out of the field it isn't going to do well on the trails. I'd say if you're going to be responsible for the person that is ok but I don't think it is fair to the people who aren't going because they don't meet the requirements and it isn't right to the people in your group who might be held up if he/she doesn't do well. With the minimal amount of snow we have right now they might be fine but we never know what will happen between now and then.

There is no sign-up. Show up, pay at the door, and wheel.

Just the tow rig is 2wd Tammy. The wheeling rig is 4wd.
It will depend on how wet it is. If it's dry 2wd should be ok in an out of the field. If there's even a little water, it will be tough going.

I don't recall ever using 4WD pulling in/out of there with my truck/trailer, but if your bud needs a hand, I'd have no problem hooking up and giving him a tug to the street. Don't let this be a deterrent for not going. There will be more than enough people to help if he needs it.
Have him come out and have fun.

 Sorry. That makes more sense. I was wondering why someone would want to wheel their 2WD tow rig but then again...I've seen stranger things. Carry on.

I guess I worded it wrong. It's me that has a 2wd tow rig. I've been to WW before, but wasn't sure if significant snow cover would hinder access with a 2wd tow rig. Thanks for the replies. I appreciate it. :)

Any one know how much snow there is up there?

No, I'm sure it was just my lack of reading comprehension... In Weare we have around 1-4". I don't know how much is in Antrim right now but the field gets pretty open sun too. Just bring it. We can make it work.

Any donations toward napkins, paper plates would be great too and very much appreciated, also I'll be bringing my generator up to run juice for crock pots. So if you'd like to bring a favorite hot dish to share please bring a power cord to plug in and don't forget a serving spoon. I'd recommend marking your dishware too some how.

I know there is no formal up front registration, but if clubs could post a ballpark list of how many they have or might have attending so we can try and get enough burgers/dogs that would be cool.

Thanks

LIOR wants to list the snow as our monthly ride. Can this event handle another 8 to 10 trucks? And will it go on with or without snow? What is needed for us to bring?

05 Rubicon. The caliper is under warranty due to prior replacement with one with a (short!!) lifetime warranty. Thank you though. Just too busy with work to tackle it before Saturday afternoon.

We had a great day today! There were around 42 people and approx. 29 rigs. We only had a couple who wanted easier stuff so we all stayed at Wayne's World and broke up into groups. Not even ten minutes in we had at least four rigs broken. There was more carnage throughout the day. Everyone broke a little after noon time for Rafikie's Grill! Some went back to play and most were heading home around 4pm.

Thank you to:
Rafikie & Ben Caesar for manning the grill and serving. Western MA 4x4 for providing the food and renting a grill!
TJ, Frosty, Brendan Fitzgerald, and Dave Smith (I think in the orange/blue Jeep) for leading groups today!
NE4Wi for the use of Wayne's World.
Everyone who showed up to have a good time today!!

We took in $1320 and since the only cost we had was $80 for stickers, we will be putting $1240 to the Land Acquisition Fund!

We also drew the winner for the Volunteer Raffle today and Wayne Berry was the name drawn. He will be the recipient of a brandy new Superwinch LP8500! I'd like to say thank you to Dr. Wheels for getting us a discounted rate on the winch! Also a huge thanks to all of the volunteers who came out to help throughout the year!
