Winter Trail Ride + Meet & Greet (Vermont) - Feb 23rd

Postby Spargman » Tue Jan 29, 2013 2:57 pm

Copied from the GMC4x4.com website...http://www.gmc4x4.com/topic/934-winter- ... -feb-23rd/

On February 23rd, GMC4x4.com is going to host their first local event (all makes & models welcome)!!

AA1PR is currently working on the map and discussing open/closed road with the Forest Service. Once the map is finalize, we're post it up here for you guys to review.

What's the plan for the day?
- quick lunch at a local Vermont eatery
- trail ride (Class III - IV roads)
- recovery demonstration & short class (depending on experience level of group)
- dinner + drinks :beerslide:

This will be a fun day of meeting other GMC4x4 members, driving through the beautiful back woods of VT and even some more challenging terrain for modified trucks. After the trail run, we'll head for dinner & drinks to catch up, relax and swap stories.

Vehicle Requirements
- front & rear recovery points
- 4 wheel drive

B/c the standard course for this trail ride can be done simply with 4 wheel drive, the requirements are minimal and I will have extra hitch pins on hand to create a rear recovery point for guys with OEM bumpers. For trucks that want to venture into the more difficult terrain, I recommend a lift, taller tires (33" min) and body armor. The trucks will be spaced so their is a rig with a winch nearby should you get stuck.

Is this for street registered vehicles only?

I have a feeling we will be starting near the Mount Holly area...but we're still working on finalizing the map as we hear about open/closed roads.

Your best bet is to follow this link as we update everything:

It would be great to meet you!! Also, if you have any recommendations for a favorite spot, please feel free to add your thoughts to the original post.

Yes - I believe for Class III you do need your vehicle to be registered on to travel. We'll also be stopping for food/drinks, which will be on paved roads.

You have to be street legal for both class 3 & 4 roads. Also, take note that most class 4 roads up here are closed into May to recreational 4wd travel, due to both snow mobile & mud season, regardless if there is snow or mud.

We're going to meet @ Subway - 21 main street Ludlow VT

We're planning to meet there @ 12p. If folks are hungry, we can grab and go on sandwiches/pizza/etc from the places in the area and then we'll hit the trails for about 4hrs. Mike has laid out a trip that will be mostly dirt roads, but we will have to hit pavement to get to a few of them. If you plan on going and you don't have my cell, send me a PM and I'll send it to you.

Around 6p we'll grab dinner/drinks and then call it a night.

Look forward to seeing everyone tomorrow.
