NEA Club Comp

Lets see if theres some interest for this event  ....I talked with Bob/Liza very briefly on facebook about this idea. What about an NEA club competition next year, late Spring/Early Summer at F&F?

Charge money to get into the comp & small amount to spectate...a portion goes to Bob & Liza, some to the winning club and some donated to the LAF

Down south they do these events a lot and it looks like a lot of fun. Itd follow a basic premise of clubs having a team of drivers & spotters with 3 different level of difficulties. At least one team per level of difficulty ideally.

Could either set up a cone course on a boulder field such as to the right of the "second" entrance to elm street (heading up the black trail towards trail 5) would be a good course for a class, set up some cones, a time limit and watch things get real interesting. Then a similar setup for each of the other classes.

Either that or dedicate a trail or part of a trail for each class and have a time limit, deductions for winching, go arounds etc.

I think it would become an awesome event thats different than what most people are used.

Heres some pics from a Club Comp down at Rausch.

A piggyback on fall crawl could be a good first run for the event. Find out what works, what doesnt, what kind of turnout to expect before making it into its own deal. Could easily make a seperate fundraising event out of this in addition to fall crawl.

I was thinking the same thing. Sunday has been kind of stale at Fall Crawl in recent years.

Couple things I really like about this for a Sunday event to keep folks around, sort of the more bang for your buck thing and as a "test" event to run at the same time or same slot as a poker run. Don't forget I am having VJA bring the teeter totter down as well. Spring or fall works. I think our sponsors/vendors will like it too. Keep it simple and think about how to generate revenue (something for the Landacque Fund (french?)) and for FnF.....

I say try it out at fall crawl but then make the following its own event. I liked going to the one they ran in Swanzey, but I thought it was built towards buggies and most of the people to show up had mild built rigs. Doing different classes keeps everyone able to participate.

I'd say the low turnout on Sunday at fall crawl is due to people living so far away it's good to pack up, travel, and have time to unwind after a few days of wheeling and drinking.

I see two issues with running this after fall crawl, one is with all the people paying for fall crawl already what chance do we have of collecting money? Two is a lot of people look forward to wheeling on the second day, will that still be an option for them? I think this is a great idea but IDK if FC is the time to launch it... just my 2 cents.

The Sunday wheeling option has typically been 50% or less of participants. The people who do wheel on Sunday make a short day of this.

I do not think we should do away with the Sunday option for wheeling, but the comp gives another option to people other than packing up and heading home

i say we keep it separate. there is a reason alot of people leave Sunday. and isn't there enough to organize already?

While I like the competition idea. I agree with these thoughts.
FC is a big enough beast already, I think adding a whole extra event of this magnitude stresses our already thin volunteer pool as well. I don't know about everybody else, but by Sunday mid-morning I'm done.

Also, I'd guess that 60% of the wheeling done on Sunday at FC is done at F&F. Doing a competition back there on Sunday virtually eliminates all the trail runs.

If it's goal is a fundraiser, asking FC participants to pony up more is going to be a hard sell.

If we pull K&K for the event and include a competition they'll drop us/the weekend's coverage, etc.

Barriers, spectator area, etc.

I think it is worth doing, but needs to be done carefully. Personally, though, I would rather see a rally style overland event - that doesn't cost $500 to participate in.
