Every April for the past 5 years members from OSJ have participated in an Earth Day clean-up of the Big River Management area in West Greenwich, RI. We have often been joined by members of other area clubs including SSW, NEXterra, and NEJZ. The management area is littered with junk vehicles and tires, many of which are located deep in the woods.
This clean-up is a collaborative effort between various area organizations including the RI chapter of the New England Mountain Bikers Association, the West Greenwich Conservation Commission, Rhode Island Water Resources Board, Ocean State Jeepsters, and others. Through this effort we have established a very postive relationship with these other organizations and are well on our way to regaining access to the Big River Management Area (which was formerly open to motorized recreation.)
This year, Ocean State Jeepsters made a $200 donation to the West Greenwich Conservation Commission on behalf of the NEA to help support the cleanup. We are donating an additional $110 from cashing in scrap metal that we removed as part of the cleanup.
