Come join us at the GMC4x4 Vermont Summer Back Roads Tour!!

The discussion for this event can be found at - http://www.gmc4x4.com/topic/1442-summer-back-roads-county-tour/

During this tour, we will explore US Forest Service Class III roads throughout Vermont, with opportunities to take Class IV for those that are interested. During this tour you would have ample opportunity to experience the beautiful landscape that is Vermont, take photos and explore the area. We will also stop for lunch at either a local Vermont eatery or we can pack in.

For communication I ask that everyone have a handheld FRS radio set to channel 1, but it is not required.

Starting coordinates are 43.27.211 & 72 48.355. The meeting area is a parking lot off the side of route 103 across from the turnpike road in Mount Holly, Vermont. Lets plan on meeting @ 10am on Saturday August 3rd.

Update: we will be stopping at a local brewery for lunch and a few watering holes for folks to jump in and cool off.

What a great event!! I would have sworn someone from here would have gone...especially to a free event. It would probably help if I posted these events on here earlier so folks had time to plan.

For anyone interested, here's a link to the photos/videos

Small world. It was nice to meet you and your friends at the Long Trail brewery on Saturday. Next time we meet hopefully I'll be driving my trail ZJ and not my street ZJ. Crazy Mike.

Indeed it is!

You are certainly welcome to join any of our events. Our next one is Sept 27 - 29th at Rausch Creek in PA.

Even though it's a Chevy/GMC crowd, all makes/models welcome and there's always a Jeep/Toyota/LR etc in the mix.

Were you able to tour some of the Class III roads after the brewery?

Here's a pic from a recent trip I did in western Mass, a lot of people on this forum think this is a scenic road.

(Technically, it is a scenic road)

That's a nice little step to crawl up into.

I see you're also from MA. I'm in Boston and definitely interested to join on one of your scenic trips if you have room.

That would be completely irresponsible of me.
No offense, but GM tie rods snap on that road. And that's not one of the obstacles, it's just one of 10000 bumps in the road.
The go arounds are illegal, they're not on the road.

I don't mean to bag on your truck - I like them, they serve a purpose. But there is a reality to the situation here, and I will be the bad guy. What we do off road is different than that.
Approach angle and departure angle and break over angle are real factors in what we do. The math on a four door full size on what I call an easy trail only adds up to a LONG day of recovery. I've 'allowed' it to happen on a run I led before and will not repeat that experience. Excavator... Broken truck... A guy that said it was okay, but you knew it really wasn't okay - that was his truck.

If you want to ride shot gun, I have a seat this Saturday on private property. You can e-mail me at mrfreakinwhite@hotmail.com if you're interested.

My tie rods have heim joints and are made of DOM tubing...but I understand your concern. My Tahoe has also gone down the Rubicon and some of the Red Trails in Moab which is kind of a badge...but I actually think we have harder trails out here on the east coast then the "famous" ones out west. Now of course they have insane trails as well, but their regular stuff isn't that tricky.

Break over angle is a beast in a 4dr Tahoe as you mentioned and I don't have the sized tires needed to clear the big stuff; no arguments there. I appreciate the offer for riding shotgun, but I have a wedding this weekend.

The more I wheel out here in the NE the more I realize that bigger tires are in my future. The truck is built correctly so I'm not worried about breaking anything, my big issue is ground clearance.

Spargman, FULLSIZE FOREVER! Its like any rig, you throw enough green at it, it will work. If I can fit through that trail, I'm going through that trail. Don't let the cookie cutters weigh your opinion, dare to be different. Fullsize is the minority.

I couldn't agree with you more. I personally like wheeling a full size b/c it adds quite a bit of challenge over the norm. Plus it's fun to see the look on people's eyes when they see you climb a trail/obstacle/etc they didn't think was possible with 6500lb of Detroit muscle. One day I'll build something smaller for the really gnarly stuff, but for now it's with a truck large enough to comfortably cross the country in!
