What: Big River Earth Day Clean-up
When: Saturday April 26th, 2014 from 8:30 am to 12:00 pm
Where: Park-n-Ride off Exit 6a of I-95 in West Greenwich

For the 6th year in a row Ocean State Jeepsters will be partnering with the West Greenwich Conservation Commission and the RI chapter of the New England Mountain Bike Association to host an Earth Day cleanup on Saturday April 26th, 2014. As in past years, we will be focusing on the Big River Management Area.

Immediately following the cleanup lunch will be provided at the nearby Mishnock Barn. A cash bar will also be available.

Please spread the word if you have members in the area who are willing to help out. We have some very aggressive goals this year including removal of several abandoned fiberglass boat hulls, an abandoned vehicle, a number of large tractor tires, and thousands of feet of power cable insulation. In order to facilitate planning in the face of these aggressive goals I ask that volunteers please send a note to events@oceanstatejeepsters.org stating that they plan to participate.

Had a fun time playing out in the rain for a great cause.
we did a lot in a very short amount of time.

Another successful clean-up event. It was raining steady to start and slowly improved throughout the morning. In the end five dumpsters were filled with tires, boats, and other assorted junk hauled out of the woods. Thanks to our friends from NEXterra and South Shore Wheelers for showing up to help! See you next year.

is all this trash from just one year since the last clean up? or is it stuff that is further in ? nice work!

Although there is always some new dumping and litter around the boundaries of the management area most of the junk we are hauling out dates back to the late 60's and early 70's. At that time the property was under private ownership and many of the owners had their own personal landfills which at the time were largely unregulated. Many years of work remain. Earlier this year we found a charter bus on its side in a little-used section of the management area.
