Well, after the mandatory hang out and chat after the meeting, Mike and I discovered that I hadn't aired back up after driving to Worcester......well it looked that way anyway, seems one of my tires had a bit of a problem... :bang: .(this is the third Goodyear tire I have had go bad on me - I can take a hint ) Thanks for helping out Mike - the goodness lives
anyway it was a good class and hopefully it will turn into something constructive for the NEA and wheeling. And I got a purdy orange t-shirt to add to my wardrab...

Thanks to everyone that came out yesterday. I think this program is going to help us alot and will grow exponentially over the next couple years.

Sorry for the slight technical difficulties in the beginning with the phone.

i look forward to the # of trained people growing over the next few years. if we can get several members from each club trained, then any trail run done by an NEA club would probably have a volunteer trail patrol member on it... this should increase the number of reportings on any of the properties run by nea clubs and serve as a great PR position when speaking to the general public, media and public entities.

the other thing that struck me as i drove home after the meeting - neighborhoods that have a "neighborhood watch" type program in place typically mark their borders with signage that indicates as such - there may be an idea here - marking some of our trails that we know are being impacted negatively by non-NEA-affiliated wheeling - with signage warning that "these trails are part of the UFWDA Volunteer Trail Patrol program and that violators will be reported" or something to that effect.

i would REALLY like to see a bunch of news articles pop up all over the region about how the recreational movement has begun policing their own through this program and that fines and penalties have been handed out. that would be the beginning of drawing a distinction between legal wheelers and non-legal wheelers - something that i believe we desperately need to do in the court of public opinion.

Could the NEA also Require that member clubs have at least 4 VTP members? or must invite a VTP member from another club to join their every run. That request could easily be made on here.

Rawlus that is an AWESOME idea  I really like that and one I will be following up with....it may be a special order with Voss Signs but one that is worth its investment

Scott: as far as a requirement that would be an item for the delegates to decide but one I would support

JAY/PAT: Can you add the above for next meeting?

I don't know about requiring someone to be a VTP. I know we had a great turn out yesterday but I doubt all 20 clubs were represented. In addition, lets say your club has a run scheduled for may but all your VTP trained people can't make it and no one else is free, do you have to cancel that run? I think maybe once we get a few more training sessions done it might be possible but not right now. :2cents:

OK, looking into having signs made Voss does 9 x 12 custom with one or 2 color print, there would be a set up fee as well as the rates listed below:

One Color 10: $9.95 25: $4.90 50: $2.95 100: $2.05

Two Colors 10: $14.95 25: $6.95 50: $4.15 100: $2.75

What would want for a text?

I think the back ground should be bright orange with the logo in black and wording in white. Also we were trained by UFWDA.

Perhaps "This area patroled by NEA4WD volunteers trained by UFWDA...." With our website on there somewhere. Then it would serve as an educational/pr tool as well.

I like it also and would try to keep it as local as possible (NEA) but generic....instead of police and EPA change to Law Enforcement, that covers all....the point is for us to be able to use this sign in ME, NY, NH, MA, CT, RI, & VT

I think just the united logo for VTP should be used.
On a separate sign, post the NE4WD logo and the local regulations.

Exactly, It was a rush sketch/scan. I'd also agree the background should be orange for maximum visibility.

"This area patroled by NEA4WD volunteers trained by UFWDA...." I like that along with "Law Enforcement" to cover all states.

Looks good, but IMO keep the text simple and down to a minimum. The more words you put on it, the less likely people are to read it.

orange sign, all type and all "black" on the logo/shield design as knockout white.

if you could attach pics in this silly forum software i'd post something up.

Yes we absolutely need permission to use another organization's logo! I will contact Carla and see if it is possible. Scott (not Hatch) can you e-mail me the image for me to forward to her to let her know our intentions?

I am with J on the requirement. This is a "Volunteer" program and we should really be careful about placing requirements on clubs! I am confident that as we offer additional training sessions in various locations it will allow for more club members to be trained. And now that I can do the training it will make it easier.

Thanks to everyone who attended the training and for your patience!

i think some of the copy is a bit redundant, no need to say volunteer or trail patrol when that's in the UFWDA's trail patrol logo.

i think orange and black work - and do them like a traffic warning sign.

this is just a quick sketch - the fonts need work and formatting.

i'd also insert the NEA logo at the bottom in black so that the source of the sign is evident.

you could even put the UFWDA's official logo in the left or right corner.

Bow down to Rawlus gawd.
Nice sign!

In th epackets Tammy handed out, she included the rules and regs for each attendees home state. Copying those R&Rs onto laminated paper to hang in conjunction would go a long way towards edumacation of wheelers.

What trails are you all going to put them on? Legal roads and trails or ones that are NOT legal.. Like over at Coy Hill, Lakeview, etc?

I'm not sure if I totally understand where the patrols are going to be.
If you're on legal roads, lets say like OFR, are the TPV's looking for people using the go arounds? and then educating them to the correct routes?

Or.. will there be patrols set up to monitor places that are known closed/illegal locations?

Will there be special "patrol dates" set up to go to these roads, or will they just be monitored whilst driving during club rides?

Thanx!

For more information about the United Volunteer Trails Patrol Program:
http://www.nea4wd.org/articles/index.cf ... CLE_ID=233

http://www.ufwda.org/trailpatrol.htm

A couple of areas that are being considered are Coy Hill & Carnage Hill as well as possibly Florida Rd and other locations. The goals of the patrols in my opinions are to educate the unaffiliated wheelers as the cause and effect as to their actions of trail blazing and damaging private lands and give them alternate methods while still enjoying our sport. Its a tool that can be used to curtail illegal activities on legal trails similiar to Coy Hill such as trail blazing and trash dumping.

Yup I see it the same way Scott.

Dave those of us who took the training agreed to do the trail patrol while on our regular club runs. This would primarily be looking for people unaffiliated doing illegal things on legal trails. Trail braiding, littering, etc.
We may also do a few at some of the known illegal places as an educational tool.

tammy - i checked all those logos at the link they gave, while some are high-res, none are in vector format. could i trouble you to inquire if they can deliver both the trail patrol logo and the UFWDA logo in vector format? either *.eps or *.ai

if they ask why, kindly explain that it will provide the best possible quality for creating the large-format signage, that it will be easiest for changing the ink to black-only and that the signmaker may require vector art for best results.

when i get that i can re-create my sketch as a vector art file and whomever is printing the signs can take it from there.

thanks!

No problem. I am pretty familiar with the whole .eps requirements.

As far as the goal of our patrols, it really does not matter if you patrol on a legal or illegal trail and we intend to have patrols on both. Obviously if it is illegal we will only be sitting at the entrance/exit of the trail. The purpose is not to look for or seek out anyone. If you happen to see or encounter illegal activity it is best to record info as long as it will not compromise your personal safety.

The main purpose of the patrol is education. We are there as a source of information for those who come to a place to practice any form of recreation. If they have questions about state laws, environmental concerns, questions about their form of recreation, etc. We will not approach people or present ourselves in a confrontational manner.

The goal is to have specific patrols, allow clubs to utilize trained patrol members of their club on their club runs, and perform patrols in conjunction with clean-ups. Some of the suggested places have been Coy Hill, Lakeview, Class VI Roads in NH, and I am sure other places will pop up.
