We have to be able to admit that what we do does pose erosion issues, yet it would be nice to have IN HAND information to offer about how we handle Land Management and how clean-ups have been performed to show our support of multi-use areas.

I've got nothing. I may try to make the 9th in Amhrerst.

My surgery got postponed cuz I was sick, but I can do the 9th.
Wanna meet there, John?

Literature, Mike? It'd be nice to have presentable info to hand out to DCR.

I don't honestly expect there would be a good time to hand our propaganda, I expect something more like a presentation from them with small opportunities to comment quickly.
I'm definitely going, I'm making an afternoon out of it.

However, isn't there a new pamphlet that was just e-mailed to CCFW? I can print some of those at work and bring them anyway.

Just the NEA brochure...updated. I can e-mail any of the brochures:

NEA brochure
A4A brochure
Trail Patrol brochure

At a minimum you guys should make some business cards to hand to people if you don't have some already.

Mike, Mark and I attended this evening. What a turnout by private tree farmers! No pitchfork aimed at us and there were many ears perked at attention when we spoke of what the NEA goals are and services we can offer. Night went well.

Who can attend the Taunton meeting on the 11th? Really I can't afford to do it. One of the DCR reps, Mads, told me that the information we gave out and spoke about could be heard by a larger group of DCR reps there. He really listened when I spoke of the Tread -Lightly program and volunteer work within the NEA.

Thanks

I don't know what the opposition was like at the other meetings but the biggest at the amherst meeting was by private land owners/loggers and people opposing the biomass energy plants. There was not a lot of mention about recreation with the exception of a mention of no wheeled vehicles in protected areas. After a 20 minute explenation in a language that sounded very much like english, but one I didn't quite understand, we broke into small groups to discuss topics in a more individual means. Later we were able to make a 2 minute comment/speach if we so chose. Most comments were about the forestry end of all this. My biggest fear of this whole thing (at least in amherst) was the fact that not much was mentioned good or bad about recreational use of the land. I hope this isn't so it can all be shut off without opposition. Songy and I both made statements about our sport and that we (as an org) are willing to help preserve the land we wish to use/share. We also made it a point in the smaller discussions that there was no representation for our sport in all of this.

A couple of well placed comments stirred up interest, like Mads' interest. And the Nature Conservancy girl that was in our discussion group.

The Future Forest Vision plan does not make sense on a lot of levels.

Like John said, the meeting tomorrow in Taunton is a GREAT place for 4x4 drivers to show up and be heard. The DCR has VERY LITTLE INPUT or AWARENESS of our side of the story.

On my way to this meeting, I met with a road agent, assessors and DCR Ranger about our club. I walked into this and had to start off with, "We are not enemies."
3 minutes later, they were asking how they could help us.
Point being, the DCR does seem more receptive to input from people that also visit and use the woods than input from people that look at the woods via satellite photos. <-- a story in itself.

Spongy was handing them out to anyone that looked at all receptive, and I think it was great.
I didn't fold 'em, I wish I could've.

We actually had private landowners(2) that asked us for info.

As I handed them out, I explained that executive officers have changed recently and the folded, color version had not been printed yet.

Good luck this evening, I'd be going-but money is tight for me. Keep in mind that our experience was MUCH better recieved than Rich had spoken of.

Thanks

Brochures look awesome

Unfortunately work got in my way and I didn't make it. 2 SSW members went though and I'm hoping to get a report back from them later. I can only get on the NEA forum late at night, so we didn't have the brochures with us tonight but I will keep them for future use

I don't mind e-mailing them to people..and will, but it seemed as though the PR Committee wanted to enhance the current designs. On the other hand, we should use what we have until then.

When they got handed over to people who never heard of us, it went over well. They look good and we weren't making any apologies for their appearance. A lot more legible than the Flawed Forest Visions paperwork.
