Big River Earth Day Clean-up: Saturday April 18th, 2015

Postby Eric » Sun Mar 22, 2015 10:53 pm

What: Big River Earth Day Clean-up
When: Saturday April 18th, 2015 from 8:30 am to 12:00 pm
Where: Park-n-Ride off Exit 6a of I-95 in West Greenwich, RI

For the 7th year in a row Ocean State Jeepsters will be partnering with the West Greenwich Conservation Commission and the RI chapter of the New England Mountain Bike Association to host an Earth Day cleanup on Saturday April 18th, 2015 at the Big River management area in West Greenwich, RI.

Immediately following the cleanup lunch will be provided at the nearby Mishnock Barn. A cash bar will also be available.

The following video from last year's clean-up was produced by our friend Peter from the RI chapter of the New England Mountain Bike Association and provides a good idea of what this event is about:

It is great to be out there side by side with the EPOs and other officials
and to see that they were so glad to see us there. :D
I did get pulled over last year by an EG police and he asked... are you with the cleanup ???
The 4Runner was piled up high with trash but, we still said yes.. and he said OK carry on and thank you
Very Cool feeling indeed :D

With out our help 80% of the large debris would never make it out of the woods and into the dumpsters.
I know that dragging tires and Boats out of the woods was great fun for me. :D

Sure! Maybe link to the video if that's possible?

Just over a week to go.

This is a rain or shine event. Seems like it rains every year so it will probably be raining this year too.

The management area features some huge sand dunes and I am thinking about scheduling an open-to-the-public 4x4 event in the sand later this year. I've met with the Associate Director of the RI DEM who prefers this area for OHV recreation because "you can't hurt the sand". The biggest challenge is fitting this event into an already busy 2015 schedule. Is there any interest in a sand run? This would be open to registered & insured vehicles only.

Oh yeah I'm in :hello:
I'm sure I can get a couple of rigs from our group to help.
I ran that area once, got to be over 15 years ago ... very fun spot .
we may need long orange flags on the rigs , it is tough to see others due to the dunes.
that's the spot the East Greenwich PD thought I was trying to get into last year..
