FRS Radios

Postby mdsracing398 » Tue Feb 06, 2018 11:39 pm

So I mentioned this at the meeting Saturday.

Baystate is switching to FRS radios. So I looked into doing a bulk buy to get them cheaper. After I talked to Ricky about programming them. We came up with the idea of offering the deal up to any NEA member for a limited time.

The radio being offered is the BaoFeng UV5R

I'm not making a dime off of these. Just trying help save people money. It's cost of radio, Ricky Barrette is programming them for pretty much nothing, and PayPal fee.

Package Includes:
Walkie Talkie 1800mAh Rechargeable Battery
Battery Charger
Antenna
Bracket
100~240V Power Adapter (2-flat-pin plug / 106cm)
Earphone (104cm-cable)
Hand Strap
English Manual

Fully Programmed with FRS, MURS, GRMS, NOAA, & KOH Race Channels

Radios will be $26.50 offer ends Feb. 28th. I'm ordering them all on March 1st. So should be ready to pickup 2nd to 3rd week of March.

Here are the two links either one gets you same deal

Im not sure if this is the right area / dont wanna over run your post. Nejeep has been looking into these radios for a while; however we are hung up when it comes to the legality of the radios.

Are your members required to get a license to use the radios ? are they at their own risk, etc.

since the radios output at 5 watt and have a removable antenna we are under the impression that a license is needed to operate them legally? The radios can be operated on 2 meter frequency's which require a ham radio license.

frs channels are limited to 2 watts and

gmrs frequency's are also limited to 2 watts but require a license.

Im not wanting to rain on anyone's parade, just trying to gather information for our club.

Thanks in advance

by the letter of the law however, these are not FRS radios.

even if the radios are setup for frs frequency's,

- the power output is 5 watts, 2 watts is allowable for frs frequency's
- the antenna is removable, radios that transmit on frs frequency's must have a fixed antenna

It says local pick up as shipping. What is considered local?
