shouldn't stop you from holding a trail cut, though.

i don't take a month off from my work to avoid going into the woods.

i believe maine doesn't allow hunting on sunday.

Maine doesn't hunt on Sunday.

I always figure a hunter can tell the difference between a deer and a group of people wielding chainsaws

Looks like a perfect opportunity for a little overnight NEA4WD Social and Safety patrol.

Most renegades are renegades because they have nothing better to do and have not been enlightened to right from wrong.

That having been said I know the area and the mindset and most likely as stated this is just kids doing as i did before I knew better and as some of my neighbors did until i showed them and helped them to see what they were doing.

Catch more flies with honey then you do with vinegar. Get them to join a club, then they can party all they want as long as it is done responsibly.

Peace adn god wishes to all in this Holiday Season.

Say some of us are out there and the renegades show up drunk. A. do we confront them.? B. Do we not say anything? C. Do we just get license plate numbers and have the local police waiting for them when they exit the Class VI road?

In general, a confrontation is not what you're looking for.

Also, you sitting out there on a Friday and/or Saturday night is going to be an odd enough situation that will likely result in you doing more explaining than questioning, and you should definitely notify all the requisite authorities that you'll be out there "observing."

In fact, now that I think about some more, there really shouldn't be any confrontation unless you're either with the landowner, or letting the authorities (police/sheriff/fish&game) do the confronting. Otherwise, you're simply risking yourself for what... ? Remember that things can escalate very quickly late at night and with the alcohol/bravery factor.

I know protecting the land is a big deal, and I know it's important, but it's not worth the physical safety or legal troubles of any member or members.

If it's really some young knuckleheads out for a little drinkin' spot, then your presence would hopefully be enough of a deterrent. But if it's not, then what? What will you do? Can you get a cell signal there? If so, and you DO call the authorities, can they get there in time to accomplish anything? I don't doubt your intentions Steve, and I applaud you for wanting to get out there and do something about it directly.

First though, try the signs, and measure any effect that may have. Take it in small steps and publicize the steps with local officials everywhere. Let them know the organization is testing measures to cut down on illegal activity on these remote roads/paths. (win the hearts and minds, right?)

i have a rather long peice of cable i believe is atleast 1/2 thick if needed just need some clamps and im sure someones got some large timber or tube on here that could be used as posts......that should do the trick....
throw on a combonation lock that only a few select members and the landowner knows the combo...

I like the cable idea if it is at a level where it will not injure ATV riders. I suppose we could make sure it is very visible. We need to have signs made up that say if you want legal access to these trails contact so and so.

I'm not looking ot do anythign other then hang out in an apparently cool spot to hang out spend the night (with land owner approval) and enjoy th eout doors. Should anyone so as to happen along I would merely act cordial in only the way I can and put out my hand and talk.

As you stated more then likely the presence of someone else there would more then drive them away. I come from the same Genes that did and has done this type of things for many generations. It is common practice for the high schoolers and post graduates to gather on the weekends and hoop it up as there ain't much else to do in these areas. No Movie theaters to go to, no malls to hang out at and no bowling alley to learn how to smoke and drink at. the right of passage for these areas is pit parties and late night gatherings on remote propeties.................

I could list many of my old haunts and many of you would know where they are. Most are no longer accessible or have been developed and we have lost access to them for ever. For actions my peers and I may have had a hand with or actions those after us did, but in any event It can't hurt to have a little NEA party as long as the keys make into a safe, and we are responsible about it!

Worst that can happen is no one ever shows up and we have a great time.

Best that can happen they show up and are interested in what we are doing and what we have to say.

I can tell you the landowner will not mind you camping out. Hey wait I did the pit parties and we had malls, theaters and we had a bowling alley. It was much more fun to see how big we could make the fire and how much beer we could consume.
